Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
A huge well done to the Year 3/4 class for putting on a fantastic production of the Diwali story. The acting, speaking and singing were super. It was particularly lovely to see some of our quieter children 'giving it their all'.
Well done to the eleven children who performed in our concert this morning. We heard piano, flute, guitar, recorder and drum performances. As one young pupil said, 'I'm making happy memories'.
Thank you to Lily in Year 6 for coming up with the idea of raising much-needed funds for the British Red Cross's Turkey/Syria Earthquake Appeal.
Lily put together a tempting Easter basket of chocolate treats and sold tickets in school. She raised £151 for the appeal which was a great outcome. Well done to the winning family!
Well done to everyone who took part in our Easter Bonnet Parade today. Sadly, the weather wasn't on our side but we struggled through the wind and rain and finally found our 7 winners. There were some very original designs and some old favourites.
Well done to Ryleigh in Year 6 who has been raisning money for the Royal British Legion Industries.
On Friday 24th March she slept outside in the wind and rain, taking part in The Big Tommy Sleep Out, raising money for homeless ex-servicemen and women (both her dad and step-dad are ex-servicemen).
Due to the weather conditions the cardboard boxes were swapped last minute for a tarpaulin. She raised a grand total of £310.
She was amazing, sailed through the whole thing like a breeze, and was up (not too early) ready for breakfast the next morning. We are all very proud of her.
Four of our Year 5/6 pupils joined six other schools at the 'There is Only One Earth Climate Summit' organised by St Edward's Prep School. Each team had to present an idea which they would be promoting in their own schools to tackle the climate crisis.
Will and Pharrell prepared a presentation about eco-lunches. They hope to provide information to parents on how to create packed lunches that are more nutritious, more environmentally friendly and also cheaper.
Lily and Sophie's idea involved developing an Englefield Primary School copse on Englefield Estate land. Each year group will plant a tree when they join the school as a legacy for future generations.
Alok Sharma MP spoke to all the participants about their ideas. As he has a personal connection with Lord Benyon, he copied the letter from Lily and Sophie asking for a site on the Englefield Estate and promptly sent it straight to him!
The event was brilliantly organised and we were so proud of our four activists. Now we look forward to the whole school joining in with their ideas.
A huge thank you to Mrs Read and Mrs Hooper who accompanied the children.
We started a Science Club for KS1 this term, following on from the success of our KS2 club. The weekly session is run by Kelly Mullinger before school and is attended by seven children .The children do lots of practical activities and talk about what they are observing and what they have found out...great training for enquiry-led learning.
Years 5 and 6 visited The Oratory School today to find out all about bees. As a school with our open hives, it is important that our children know about the importance of bees and the contribution they make to our planet.
The children were taught about the roles of the drones, the workers and the queen and how honey is made by being passed through the bees' bodies...an interesting thought when you spread it on your toast!
They had a great time and were also treated to a delicious brownie.
Thank you to The Oratory for this wonderful experience.
Today we entered our first ever girls' football tournament. The hosts were Bradfield College and a total of 8 teams took part. Our team of Ryleigh, Lily, Eliza, Kacey, Eva, Ella and Isla did brilliantly, expecially considering this was their first experience of match play. They ended up coming 5th overall with some excellent individual match results.
The team was delighted with the result and wore their medals proudly.
Thank you to Bradfield College for organising the event and for looking after us so brilliantly. We're looking forward to next year already!
Four of our Year 5/6 pupils headed off in the spring sunshine to Elstree School this afternoon to participate in the Small Schools Cross Country Competition. A total of nine teams from five different schools took part.
The course was hilly and muddy but the children ran well and the team completed the 4 laps in 25mins and 23 seconds. Fastest lap went to Will.
The team came in fourth overall...a great result.
Thank you to Mr Higgs for organising and to Elstree School for hosting the tournament and for providing such delicious refreshments at the end.
