  • Black History Week

    Thu 21 Oct 2021

In Black History Week, each class learnedabout black people from the past and present who have shown courage in standing up for equal rights for all people around the world. Key Stage 1 found out about Jamaican nurse, Mary Seacole, who bravely served in the Crimea at the same time as Florence Nightingale. Years 3 and 4 have been learning about modern black heroes such as Marcus Rashford whose recent campaigning led to much better provision for children. Finally, Years 5 and 6 have been learning about the life of the great campaigner for freedom, Nelson Mandela. Let’s hope that learning about all of these heroes has a lasting impact on our children.

  • Bikeability

    Tue 19 Oct 2021

Well done to our 9 Year 6 pupils who passed both Level 1 and Level 2 Bikeability.. This means they will now be confident to cycle safely on the road in readiness for going to secondary school next September.

Thank you to West Berkshire Council for delivering these sessions to our pupils.

  • Year 5/6 swimming

    Fri 15 Oct 2021

As our Year 5 and 6 pupils missed their chance to have swimming lessons during the Covid restrictions, we put in extra sessions for them at Bradfield College. Most of the children were able to swim confidently on their front and back for 25 metres. Those who weren't quite ready for that will be able to join Years 3 and 4 when they go swimming next summer.

  • Bassistry Arts

    Fri 15 Oct 2021

It was so lovely to welcome back drum and bass duo Marcel and Philippe. They gave each class a fantastic workshop, learning rhythms and songs which were then performed to the whole school in an assembly at the end of the day. Such a shame not to have the hall packed with parents but hopefully next year…

  • School Harvest Festival

    Tue 05 Oct 2021

It was very special getting the whole school back into St Mark's for our Harvest Festival. It is such a lovely opportunity to say thank you to God for the wonderful world we live in and for the food we have to eat. Harvest is also the perfect time to show our love of others by collecting items of food that we can donate to a local charity to help those in need. This year we chose to continue our relationship with the New Beginnings charity who support homeless and vulnerable families through their Reading-based day centre and their food bank. We collected a huge number of tins and packet items which the charity were thrilled to receive. Thank you to all our families for being so generous and doing their part to ensure other people are able to flourish at this difficult time.

  • Harvest at St Mark's

    Sun 03 Oct 2021

Some of our Key stage 2 children came to St Mark’s for their Harvest Festival and sang two songs for the congregation – our old favourite ’Cauliflowers Fluffy’ plus one of our newer songs, ‘When we look up to the sky’ which thanks Jesus for caring for us and the world. We were warmly welcomed back to the church after our log absence and received some lovely comments after the service. It was all rounded  off with a drink and some of Mrs Fenwick’s delicious brownie.
