Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We enjoyed a fabulous Book Week 2024 with our poetry performance competition, paper plate competition, library competition and finally our dress-up day. We were also lucky enough to have a visit from author, Debi Evans, who spoke to use about all the adventures that Rolo gets up to in real life and in her books. She stayed at school after her talk to sign copies that the children bought. Books and reading were very much the focus of the week and thanks to the efforts of our PTA, we now have over £300 to spend on books for the school.
Nine of our Year 2 class joined Mrs Latimer, Mr Jarvis and some great parent supporters at the Elstree Football Festival. There were a total of twelve teams from local schools. Englefield played really well as a team and managed to win two and draw one of their five matches. It was cold and windy but the smiles didn't leave their faces. Well done to Coldash for being the victors.
The whole Englefield team made us very proud and there were stand-out moments including Thomas's and Louis's goals; Louis also made a fantastic save right at the end of our first match. Mention should also be made of Kaya...our most enthusiastic team member!
The afternoon finished with the famous Elstree sausage rolls and a welcome cup of tea for parents. Thank you to Elstree (and Mr Bates in particular)...and well done, team!
Our 14 finalists entertained us greatly this morning in our annual poetry performance competition. They used great expression and spoke loudly and clearly. The three judges had an incredibly difficult time deciding between them but in the end the winners were Freddie, Florence, Rex, Evie, Jude and Eva. Well done to all of them for having the courage to stand up and perform in front of such a lot of people.
The Wonkafield Bars have been a huge success! Thank you to all who have supported it and to the PTA for all the effort they have put in to making it magical for the children. I think its clear from the beaming faces of all our golden and silver ticket winners that it was a hit!
All the proceeds will be used to buy some beautiful new books, selected by our winners. They have loved looking through the shelves today and choosing the books they think their school friends would enjoy. These books will be a very welcome addition to the classroom book corners.
We rounded off the term with one of the most special events of our school year – the candlelit carol service. The church was packed and everyone appreciated the telling of the Christmas story through readings and songs. Thank you to Reverend Julia and everyone at St Mark’s for making this annual event possible.
Twenty seven of us had a wonderfully Christmassy time singing to the local residents in Englefileld. We started with a visit to Englefield House where we received such wonderful hospitality, and then visited many of our local friends who thoroughly enjoy this annual event. We collected lots of goodies for the singers to enjoy back at school, along with over £64 to add to our school collection for The Salvation Army and PACT.
How proud were we of the beautiful singing of 19 of our pupils who turned out on a Sunday evening to be part of St Mark's candlelit service. Annie and Amelia sang the first verse of Once in Royal David's City with sensitivity - a super way to start the service. The choir went on to sing Silent Night (in two parts) and Child in a Manger Born - a seasonal school favourite.
We had such wonderful comments from the congregation. A lovely way to start what will be a very musical week at Englefield.
Anita excelled herself today, cooking a tasty two course Christmas dinner for the whole school. Staff served the children before sitting down to eat with them. A huge thank you to Anita and Linda for providing us with this special school occasion.
Thank you so much to our wonderful PTA who put on such a fun (and profitable) Christmas Fayre. The event was opened by the choir singing some Christmas songs then there were lots of fun Christmas-themed games to play - many run by our Year 5/6 pupils, along with festive treats to eat and drink. Elfridges did good business with the children who wanted to buy and wrap a present for Mum or Dad in secret. The children were even able to make up their own reindeer food ready for Christmas Eve.
Our youngest pupils got everyone into the Christmas spirit with a beautiful telling of a Christmas tale wth a difference - aliens landing on earth and learning about the Christmas story. They spoke and sang clearly and with confidence...a super production. Thank you to the staff and parents who prepared them so well.
