The school community came together for a very poignant yet joyous occasion - the grand opening of Ruby's Garden.
The White family, along with friends and colleagues, have worked tirelessly to develop this wonderful garden which will be tended and cherished by many pupils, staff and parents in the years to come. It contains raised beds, work benches, a greenhouse and compost bins, raspberry canes and a lovely sitting area made from a sawn tree trunk where children can hear a story or just sit quietly and enjoy their surroundings. In the centre of the garden is a beautiful cherry tree. The children can't wait to start growing their plants!
Debbi White gave a moving speech, describing Ruby and her wonderful character as well as her love of the outdoors. On behalf of the parents and pupils, Laura Hannington presented Steve and Debbi with a Flamingo Tree to put in the garden as Ruby was particularly fond of flamingoes. Mrs Latimer then gave them a bouquet of red flowers as a special thank you from the school.
Families stayed to enjoy some fizz as well as some delicious homemade scones with jam, cream and strawberries whilst the children explored the new garden and completed a treasure hunt.
The children are looking forward to nurturing their plants, and the school plans to take one photograph a week over the coming year to see how the garden flourishes.
